Carmilla was born amidst privilege and expectation. Her parents belonged to the upper echelon of society, owners of a prosperous import business that traded in metals and textiles. She was the perfect daughter of a proud household, educated and poised, fluent in several languages, and trained in the arts expected of women of her station. By her late teens, her family’s fortunes began to waver. A series of poor investments left them vulnerable, and the Herreras sought to secure their standing through an alliance. That alliance took the form of marriage to a man fifteen years her senior, a prolific arms trader whose reputation extended across borders. Their union was not born of affection but of necessity; he admired her beauty and the elevation she lent to his social standing, and she accepted the role demanded of her.The early years of their marriage were marked by his growing impatience and disappointment at her failure to produce an heir. She suffered multiple miscarriages before bearing Odette, then Clara a year later. Though motherhood had never been her aspiration, her daughters swiftly became the axis upon which her life turned. She poured her intellect and ambition into them, ensuring they grew to be strong, curious, and capable, even as their father sought to shape them into commodities for future alliances.As her daughters grew, so too did her resentment toward her husband. He treated her as ornamental, entertaining mistresses, dismissing her counsel, and mocking her interest in his trade. Carmilla turned his disregard into opportunity. Behind closed doors, she studied his ledgers and contacts, observed the craft of his industry, and learned his business. When opportunity presented itself, she acted without hesitation. His sudden illness drew no suspicion, and the seemingly grieving widow was met only with sympathy.After his death, his second-in-command attempted to seize control of his empire, but Carmilla proved herself far more capable. Under her leadership, the company flourished; she expanded its network, diversified its trade, and established her name as one spoken with respect. But even she was not immune to sentiment. Her second husband was everything her first had not been: charming, attentive, and seemingly unthreatened by her authority. He admired her strength, encouraged her ambitions, and made her feel seen. Her daughters adored him; he was patient with Odette’s quiet nature and indulgent with Clara’s curiosity. For a time, she believed peace had finally taken root in her life.But power rarely escapes envy, and love is never free of risk. Among her rivals was one she had publicly humiliated, a man once denied the partnership he sought. His bitterness deepened into obsession, and when opportunity arose, he found the perfect instrument for revenge in the man she trusted most. Her husband was offered wealth and influence surpassing her own, and in the end, he accepted.The night of her death, her home was seized in the dark. She awoke to the sound of her daughters screaming and ran toward them, but her husband turned his weapon upon her. The shot struck her in the back, the bullet shattering her spine and leaving her limbs unresponsive. She fell to the floor, her fingers streaking blood across the tiles as she crawled toward the sound of her daughters’ cries. Their voices were cut short before she could reach them, and she was left paralyzed, bleeding out in the silence that followed; her final moments filled with the knowledge that she had failed the ones she loved most.

Carmilla is a sinner demon whose demon form is a mix between a swan and a jaguar. Her build is strong and lean. Her skin is gray with a faint lilac undertone that fades to white along her forearms and down to clawed fingertips. There are faint rosette markings, reminiscent of a jaguar’s coat pattern, across her shoulders, upper arms, hips, and thighs. Numerous small scars and burns mark her hands and forearms, the result of years spent forging and refining angelic steel. A mask-like marking surrounds her eyes, slightly darker than her base skin tone; it frames eyes of red sclera and white irises, with pupils that narrow into slits when she’s angered or otherwise emotionally stirred. Her hair is long and white streaked with black, usually styled in a twin-horned updo; when left loose, it falls to her calves. She typically wears clothing in a neutral color palette that allows freedom of movement while maintaining a professional appearance.She runs much hotter than average, and due to her higher internal temperature, her skin is noticeably warm to the touch, often feeling feverish to most. Because of this, confined or overly humid places make her restless and uncomfortable. She dehydrates easily and tires more quickly in heat, so she favors open, well-ventilated spaces kept at a cool temperature. Her eyes are adapted for distance and motion detection which gives her exceptional focus at range, but causes some difficulty with close-up detail. Prolonged work at short distances leads to eye strain and headaches, so she requires glasses for reading, drafting, and working with fine mechanisms. Her eyes are also sensitive to sudden brightness or glare, leading her to prefer dim lighting in her workspaces and home.
Carmilla sleeps lightly and for short periods, averaging only a few hours a night. When she does sleep deeply, it’s in a heavy, motionless state that leaves her slow to wake if disturbed.personality.
Known for her sharp wit, cunning mind, and calculating approach to negotiations, Carmilla has become one of Hell’s most formidable Overlords and an astute businesswoman. Her nature leans instinctively toward order and refinement, and this meticulous precision extends to every aspect of her existence. Outwardly composed and self-contained, she is not immune to flashes of temper when provoked; though she favors strategy over brute force, she possesses a capacity for ruthless efficiency when her interests, particularly the safety of her daughters, are threatened.She values integrity, makes no idle promises, and expects the same level of honesty in return. Loyalty holds deep significance for her; her trust is a rare thing, hard-won, and once broken, nearly impossible to regain. Those fortunate enough to see beyond her crafted exterior discover a soul of immense tenderness: a passionate heart capable of deep affection and devotion. - Because of her demon form, Carmilla has an affinity for water. After long days, she often retreats to her bath, submerging herself until only her face remains above the surface, where she can remain for hours at a time.
- In a locked box within her study lies a stack of letters written to Odette and Clara, none of which were ever delivered. The earliest pages are filled with apologies, confessions, and pleas for forgiveness that she never found the courage to voice aloud. Over time, the tone shifted, the later letters speaking instead of pride, admiration, and love. Even now, she still writes to them from time to time.
- Carmilla has always preferred coffee, particularly strong and black coffee, but she developed an appreciation for tea after meeting Zestial. She still reaches for coffee in the mornings, but in the evenings, tea has become her habit.
- She has a deep love for cheesy romance novels. Shelves of them line the privacy of her bedroom, and she often reads them while curled up in bed.

in an alternate ending to season two, charlie is killed; her death becomes the catalyst for a full-scale war between heaven and hell, ignited by lucifer and lilith in their grief. as the conflict escalates, carmilla strikes a deal with the royal pair. in exchange for providing weaponry for the coming war, they grant her what she wants most, the safety of her family; they arrange for the carmines to hide on earth.on earth, carmilla and zestial open a tea shop, with clara and odette working beside them while also pursuing their own interests. all four of them struggle, each in their own way, to adapt to modern human life and the dissonance of being demons living among humans.
